Knowing Our Weaknesses Allows Us To Move Forward

Knowing our weaknesses allows us to move forward

Vulnerability is what makes us unique, especially people. By recognizing our weaknesses, we accept our condition as human beings.

However, many times we try to hide and not recognize the aspects for which we consider ourselves weak, thus showing ourselves in an inauthentic way to others.

For some reason, there is a pattern of conduct in our culture that leads us to want to hide our weaknesses; a model according to which you must always show your best, striving to be the best.

What does it mean to always be the best?

When we go about our daily chores, both professionally and personally, we are convinced that we have to be the best at all costs.

There are many who live in this way, according to the ideal of a life that aims at achieving the title of “best” in those fields that they consider important.

But reality puts each of us back in his place, highlighting our limitations and our difficulties; and all of this generally happens within a series of circumstances that change all the time and over which we have no control.

Life works like this: it makes us skid, it slows us down and makes us think. The key and the setting of everything are not in being the best at something, as that way we would be in constant competition and comparison with others.

This process takes us to the limits of self-need, to the point where we no longer have any consideration for ourselves and our learning process.

One can even lose sight of one’s vital priorities ; one heads towards disconnection with oneself, a dimension in which one does not know what one wants or where one is going.

Accept your vulnerability

Accepting one’s vulnerability in front of oneself and others requires a demonstration of courage and valor, since it implies the ability to accept oneself as one is; with their own wounds, their unfinished business, their mistakes.

This is where the process that leads us to a real internal development begins, through which we can love ourselves unconditionally, reaching a state of greater well-being and peace.

Evolution will begin when we accept our condition as human beings, establishing our motivations for continuing:

  • We live under conditions and circumstances that very often we cannot control.
  • The ability to do what we know how to do in the best possible way depends on our will, discovering and strengthening our potential.
  • Recognize that each person has a distinct rhythm, context, circumstances, difficulties and priorities.
  • Giving the best of yourself, growing and excelling yourself is the best way to advance.
  • Accept your limitations without criticizing yourself, learning to understand yourself and becoming more compassionate and honest people.
  • We can only overcome our limits after recognizing them.

Show us as authentic people

Developing the process of accepting one’s vulnerability leads us to face ourselves. In this way, we will gain access to our authenticity, making it easier for us to connect with other people.

Accepting our difficulties without fear of being rejected, without fear of having to expose our weaknesses, will lead us to get  rid of the mask we usually wear, the one with which we have superficial relationships.

By doing so, we will make room for ourselves more naturally in reality, relating to others in a more honest and authentic way.

“Accepting our weakness instead of trying to hide it is the best way to adapt to reality.”

-David Viscott-

By accepting to be vulnerable we will be able to be more human, we will admit our own imperfections and consequently also those of others.

We will remove all arrogance and superiority from us, without considering ourselves superior to others. It is extremely pretentious to persist at all costs to be the best: you get to lose for life.

With acceptance, we will be able to overcome our limitations and fears, we will be able to show ourselves simply for who we are, and we will finally be the best version of ourselves.

In this video, researcher Brene Brown brilliantly exposes the consequences of vulnerability, illustrating its importance in order to advance as a human being.
