A Short Film About The Value Of Little Things

A short film about the value of little things

If we talk to you about animated films that have robots as protagonists, we are sure that you will immediately think of WALL-E. Well, we hope that after watching this short film that we present below, you will find a space in your heart even for someone called Bibo,  and that you will learn to value the little things.

Bibo is an old robot, who lives a routine that is always the same, which forces him to continue living. His existence is governed by small things, which give him the strength to live and breathe … Bibo sells ice cream and loves his job, because it makes someone happy: a little girl.

In fact, we are sure that after watching this short film, you will ask yourself many questions, because the creators of this masterpiece have carefully chosen their character, as well as the context in which to make him move.

In a sense,  robots are those apparently artificial and lifeless beings who, in the future, will be forced to imitate all our actions  and why not say it, even our emotions.  We invite you to reflect on this topic.

Bibo’s Imaginary Life: A Story About the Human Condition

bibo thinks
Bibo lives in a lonely, mechanical and extremely artificial world. In reality, our friend and only protagonist of the story lives in an imaginary world where only the routine of small gestures that he makes every day allows him to move forward. Happiness too.

We could say without being mistaken that this square-looking character, a little mechanical and a little empty inside, represents many dimensions that characterize us. Humanity, that race that continues to rise higher than machines.

  • We too create strong defense mechanisms to protect our reality.
  • Sometimes, routine, habits and small gestures create our entire universe, the one that allows us to survive in one way or another. Well, it is not a complete life, but it is a way to save oneself, by which to maintain strength and dignity .
  • Bibo likes simple things: warming his feet in front of the stove, swinging on a chair and breathing the sadness caused by nostalgia … He is a creature that represents very well the part of our human condition in a given moment, when we ceased to exist.

The illusory worlds that keep us alive

We all have our illusions, our inner worlds which, at times, are the only way to find the strength to get up in  the morning. This feeling should be occasional, no one should live only thanks to his defense mechanisms, his dreams and his false illusions.

The creators of this very successful short film are Anton Chistiakov and Mikhail Dmitriev. According to the same, what they wanted to convey in this delicate, symbolic and emotional short film is a simple reflection on the life cycle of human beings.

  • During a specified period, people perform a function in society, like Bibo in the past, when he sold ice cream.
  • Then there comes a time when everything changes and we are forced to live only from our best memories of the past. We cling to that defense mechanism in which the value of small things brings us back to emotions already experienced, which are transformed into authentic pillars, which allow us to continue living, and to move forward.
  • The human condition in this short film is present in a single robot, which apparently represents the last drives of our race:  melancholy, memory, sadness and immense affection for loved ones, which push us to do the impossible. Even to create an imaginary world, which no longer exists.

Enjoy this short film. And above all… share it!
