If You Don’t Know Where To Go, Follow The Scent Of Dreams

If you don't know where to go, follow the scent of dreams

The only way to make a dream come true is to find the freedom necessary to change reality. Yet sometimes it seems that society does everything to clip our wings, submitting us to lifestyles that, little by little, absorb us into an opaque routine, devoid of freedom.

Entering any bookstore, you will find a bunch of manuals that try to teach you how to make your dreams and goals come true. They talk about determination, self-confidence and motivation. However, they do not always refer to the role that all the environmental factors that hinder our dreams play. It is about society itself, that set of bodies ready to control us through their politics. However, reference should also be made to the family and to the educators themselves.

Maria Montessori said that the first task of education is to “move life”, leaving it, however, free to develop on its own. Nowadays, instead of rekindling the flame of happiness in children, many families and numerous educational centers direct the little ones to fixed parameters that lead them to become homologated.

When we raise people who in the future aspire to be all the same, to possess what belongs to their neighbor or to reach the goals of others, freedom is not authentic.

It is certainly not a fertile ground for dreams. We cannot in fact forget that the great dreams born of the finest minds are those that can change the world, those that help us aspire to a more worthy horizon, more full of wonders and possibilities.

Dreams make us revolutionary

Sometimes we have the feeling that our personal and work scenarios are real minefields. The present we live in does not help at all: bureaucracy, corporatism, the lack of investment in human capital and the rigidity of our social structures, are all barriers to our dreams.

Aware of the presence of all these enemies, we sometimes decide to give up something to achieve our goals. For example, many people are forced to cut off relations with their family in order to study abroad or to be happy alongside a person who is not accepted by their parents. It is also common that an entrepreneur has to risk his entire life in order to realize a project, the dream in which he has invested effort, money, time and suffering.

All of these are certainly true acts of faith, courageous gestures that reveal to us something that should never be forgotten. John Maxwell, American writer and expert in leadership and communication, explains that today talent is not enough to make our dreams come true. We need to “fight” in many areas. It is a daily struggle that will, however, help us grow as people.

The human being is programmed to evolve and break these models: we are made to survive in the midst of everyday adversity, to reach goals and objectives sooner or later.

The scent of a dream, an everyday companion

In the midst of the complex landscape in which we live, a paradoxical fact stands out. Most of our dreams relate to the first steps of Abraham Maslow’s pyramid of needs. The aspiration to safety and protection is a more than coveted goal: a good job, a home, a bed to sleep on …

At the same time, even the needs for self-esteem or fulfillment are an element on which to invest day by day: trust, self-esteem, independence, freedom … It seems that today it is still very difficult to obtain one’s self-realization, to achieve that phase in which the reality that has always dreamed of is finally emerging.

Well, just like Wayne Dyer said, when we dance, our goal is not to get to a particular point on the dance floor, but to enjoy the whole moment. For this reason , instead of breaking down or doubting ourselves when we can’t make a dream come true, we should be aware that life is a dance that never stops. If we stop, the music will stop and we will lose the rhythm, the magic, the motivation.

If there is anything human beings have been doing since they rolled their eyes and discovered the stars, it is dreaming. No matter how dark the night is, how dense the forest of our everyday world is – our dreams always encourage and push us to fight, not to give up. Because no dreamer is small, and no dream is ever too big.
