7 Benefits Of Reading

7 benefits of reading

Reading affects our mind and life in many ways. Furthermore, on a physiological level, it has been shown that  actively reading is able to increase the connectivity of our neurons.

On the emotional level, however, it has been shown that reading – especially fictional stories – increases our ability to simulate the mental state of others and feel greater empathy and understanding for others.

The benefits of reading

–  Reading allows you to live new experiences. Like? Well, it’s simple; especially fictional literature has a great emotional impact on the reader who is able to feel emotions that perhaps, otherwise, it would take decades to discover and helps him to feel empathy for the characters he identifies with during the narration.

–  Reading is a great simulator of reality. It is like a time machine that suddenly takes us to different situations and eras with specific characteristics and characters.

This helps us to be kinder to others because it teaches us to see the world from the perspective of others and helps us to take into account the consequences of our actions towards those around us. It also shows us the simplicity of virtues such as kindness, generosity and sympathy.

Woman-who-reads

– Good literature has always been in opposition to hegemonic value systems that prioritize only the pursuit of money and power. True writers are on the opposite side of this world view. They  help us sympathize with ideas and feelings that counteract the cynicism and hypocrisy of the world.

–  Reading is a cure for loneliness. In well-written books we can find characters with whom we identify and, with them, discover the whole world described during the narration. When the book is interesting, it catches our attention and loneliness disappears by itself, as the book turns into our best friend and companion.

Writers help us to open our hearts and our minds  because they give us the right tools to get rid of the paranoia and the feeling of persecution that sometimes invades us.

– Finally, we want to add that reading  is also very useful because it helps us better prepare for failure. Nobody wants to fail in life, but in reading they will find the tools that will allow them to recognize that failure exists and that it can be overcome by becoming stronger and, in the end, achieving what is desired.

Reading is also a good habit because the benefits mentioned so far are equally valid regardless of the age or condition of the reader. It is clear that every age has different preferences and needs, but the results are the same for everyone.
